On our way to the in-ground hide at Mashatu Game Reserve, Botswana, we were warned there are some days when no elephants come to visit during a session. After we set up we first saw a variety of birds, then some antelopes, and suddenly, silently became aware of elephants approaching to drink.
Over the next couple of hours we were very lucky that many groups came through, and took lots of beautiful photos. This one manages to capture the full generational array of one large group, with the youngest protected in the middle of the herd. Converted to black and white it concentrates on form, tone and texture, the aesthetic composition with its mirrored poses, and the sense of movement.
