Salmon Fishing at its Best

NOTE: Due to an unexpected operation on my spine three weeks ago, my wife Una and I have unfortunately had to withdraw from this photography workshop. Thus, TWO places have opened up. My guess is, they will fill quickly.

UPDATE: One place has been filled. Only one place remains for a male photographer willing to share accommodation.

The workshop is led by my friend Art Wolfe and is being held in a private lodge in the Katmai region of Alaska.art-wolfe-workshops-200x133

You will have unique opportunities to view and photograph bears safely, at close proximity and will be creating dynamic images that are different than anything you have seen before.

Due to the exclusivity of the location this is a Katmai experience like no other.

You will be one of only 8 people to learn the finer nuances of nature photography, taught in a truly wild atmosphere by two of the very best instructors – Art Wolfe & Gavriel Jecan.

Before you read further, take a few minutes to watch this very short video which features the brown bears you will photograph with Art on this workshop.

The activity level for this workshop is moderate with proposed field outings that may involve approximately 4 miles of hiking to the photographic location.

The Last Frontier

Where we are going is the last frontier, a place where wild dominates humankind. A place known as the land of the midnight sun, here alpenglow lasts for hours, not minutes.

Brown bears, Katmai National Park, Alaska, USA

Imagine venturing into this wilderness where the bears do not fear humans, where the minimal human population has learned and adapted to live in harmony with them.

The bears rule, not only because they are strong, large, and on the top of their food chains, but because the humans believe that they should. Now imagine being able to capture photos of these magnificent creatures from 15 feet away. This is the Alaska we want to show you!

All aspects of outdoor and nature photography will be covered, including composition, field techniques, technology, and the unique philosophy Art brings to this highly specialized profession.

There will be informative lectures, rigorous critiques and portfolio reviews. Instead of concentrating only on f-stops and equipment, we will work on composition, imagination, and the control of every element in the image.

We do more than just take you to the location; we help you to maximize your creative and technical skills as a photographer.
