We had been in Botswana with Denis for two weeks and had photographed a wealth of African wildlife prior to arriving in Kenya.  Absent among the the quests I had wanted to capture was this classic image I had in my mind of zebras.  I didn’t know exactly how I was going to get the photo I had in my head, but I knew it was something I really wanted to bring home from Africa.

One early morning in Amboseli National Park we were heading into the rising sun with Art Wolfe in the vehicle as we drove by this dazzle of zebras.  We quickly stopped to observe these skittish animals as they stood distracted with each other on a rocky crest. Art, who apparently speaks zebra, made some sounds that instantly brought their attention to us, and like magic I got the image I had dreamed!
