Iconic Images collaborates with Tony Hewitt, Perth, Australia to conduct up to three Masterclasses per year, in Australia.

Tony is a Grand Master of Photography and Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). He is also a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography. He was a WPPI presenter/judge in 2007 to 2011 in Las Vegas USA, the Keynote Speaker at Light Pro 2009 in Florida USA and has been invited to host, as Master of Ceremonies, the Australian Professional Photography Awards each year since 2001.

Like Art Wolfe, Tony is a gifted teacher who leads photographers to see things in new ways and is a very decent human being.

With a passion for visual expression, and an instinctive sense of the moment, Tony brings to these Masterclasses a unique combination of award winning photographic vision and simple creativity. Creating ‘something from nothing’ is a common thread between his images.

The themes for our Masterclasses give a sense of the contemplative nature of our joint approach to photography: “The Quiet Mind”, “The Artist’s Eye”, “Finding The Light”, “The Hidden Dimension” and “Revealing Artistry in Photographs”.

International Guest Photographers

Every second year, Iconic Images arranges to bring to Australia at least one legendary international photographer needing no introduction, especially to nature, travel and wildlife photographers.

All will be recognised by their peers as “the best of the best” in their own country as well as being highly respected internationally in their chosen genre of photography.

The aim is to contribute to the broad learning and development of photography in Australia.

Shem Compion – May 2014

Africa Geographic reports Shem Compion as one of the top three nature and wildlife photographers in Southern Africa.

Shem is an adventurer, nature photographer, creative author and photography hide designer/builder who’s passion is to share his love and experience of the natural world with other people.  His full time occupation is wildlife and nature photography.  He loves to celebrate creative photography by exploring every aspect of the natural world, making him one of the most diverse and celebrated natural history photographers, whose work has been awarded and published worldwide.  Born in Africa, Shem travels the world to share his stunning images, his knowledge and his deep natural history experience with other people, especially with photographers of kindred spirit.

Upon discovering his love of photography, Shem decided the best way to become a wildlife photographer was to live like one.  He sold his belongings, quit his “day job” and for seven months travelling up through Africa in a Landrover exploring all of the well known game reserves, to live his dream, to exist as a full time wildlife photographer. On this adventurous trip, to mostly remote destinations, he captured many of his first iconic images – ones that have propelled his professional career forward. From those carefree days, he continued  work solely as a successful professional photographer and in 2005 established what has become South Africa’s premier photo safari company – C4 Images & Safaris.

Ever the adventurer and explorer Shem still undertakes one trip per year to a wild and remote destination. Here he “clears his mind” and “becomes one with his camera” – often producing some of his best and most creative photographic work.

Shem has always grounded his skills on being a naturalist and a photographer. These have been appreciated and used by the likes of the BBC Natural history Unit on the multi award winning BBC Planet Earth series.  He was involved on the Great Plains series showing lions hunting elephants in the Savuti, Botswana.

He still personally hosts a number of photo workshops and photo tours each year in addition to guiding his private photo safaris.

Iconic Images International has worked closely with C4 Images and Safaris since 2009 and Shem personally co-leads all of Iconic Images’ photo safaris in Africa. It is with great pleasure we invite him to Australia to share his amazing story, skills and expertise with Australian photographers.
